Jacob Tobia made television history voicing the nonbinary character Double Trouble in Netflix’s Emmy-nominated show, She-Ra and The Princess of Power. Since then, Tobia’s writing and advocacy has made them one of the most prominent genderqueer voices of our day, with writing appearing in The New York Times, Time, and The Guardian, and appearances on Good Morning America and The Daily Show.
In Tobia’s upcoming essay collection "Before They Were Men", they offer a paradigm-shifting argument for reframing how feminism incorporates men. Tobia argues that men and boys may be the ones suffering the most under the gender binary right now, and they dare readers to stop understanding men as beneficiaries of patriarchal institutions and start understanding them as what they are: co-survivors of patriarchy and a fundamental, essential part of the solution.
